After years of witnessing unreliable tradespeople and stressful customer experiences, Sam and Ruby decided it was time for change. They believed home maintenance should empower people, not burden them.
In St Austell and beyond, unreliable service, lack of communication, and poor craftsmanship were leaving homeowners frustrated and unsure of who to trust. We saw an industry in need of innovation, reliability, and a customer-first approach.

Combining Sam’s 13 years in high-end property renovation with Ruby’s scientific precision and customer care expertise, we built a business focused on delivering peace of mind. Ruby’s background in plant science and hospitality gives her a unique ability to nurture relationships and pay attention to the little details. Together, they’ve turned a vision into a business that feels like family—complete with their Chief Morale Officer, Elsa the dog.

Sam | Founder
In 2023, Sam launched St Austell Handyman with a mission to transform home maintenance into a stress-free, seamless experience for the St Austell community. Drawing from over 13 years of high-end renovation experience, studies in mechanical engineering, and a background in tech-focused ventures, Sam combines practical expertise with an innovative mindset.
Sam introduced Cornwall’s first digital quoting and live booking system to the local handyman industry, setting a new standard for convenience and reliability. Starting as a one-man operation, he quickly built a trusted team and developed systems designed to prioritise quality, professionalism, and customer peace of mind.
Guided by the belief that home maintenance should empower people, not burden them, Sam continues to innovate, ensuring St Austell Handyman remains a trusted name in the community. His vision is to redefine the role of handyman services, offering solutions that give customers the freedom to focus on what truly matters.
When he’s not driving St Austell Handyman forward, Sam enjoys Cornwall’s stunning coastline, spending his time fishing, kayaking, cycling, or unwinding at his favourite local pub.
Ruby | Co-Founder and Business Development Manager
Ruby leads sales, communications, and digital strategy at St Austell Handyman, ensuring every customer interaction reflects the company’s commitment to simplicity, reliability, and peace of mind. From managing customer calls to overseeing social media and website content, Ruby’s adaptability and dedication have been instrumental in driving the company’s growth.
With a BSc in Plant Science from the Eden Project University Centre, Ruby brings a unique blend of scientific precision and creative problem-solving to the team. Her background in marketing, PR, and hospitality adds depth to her role, helping St Austell Handyman deliver a professional yet personal experience for every customer.
Ruby’s enthusiasm for learning and innovation has helped shape the company’s forward-thinking approach, empowering the team to stay focused on the shared mission: making home maintenance effortless and life simpler for the St Austell community.
Outside of work, Ruby enjoys spending time with her family, tending her garden, or exploring Cornwall’s beautiful countryside with Elsa, the team’s Chief Morale Officer and their lively Bordoodle.
Elsa | Chief Morale Officer
Elsa is St Austell Handyman’s fluffy Chief Morale Officer, and she takes her role seriously—by bringing maximum joy and tail wags to the team every day! Elsa’s presence reminds us all to take a break and enjoy the moment.
Outside the office, Elsa loves exploring Par Beach, making new dog friends, and finding the biggest sticks possible. She’s always ready to lend a paw in boosting team spirit!
